October 17, 2008 – The Professional Firefighters of Vermont (PFFV) is campaigning hard to help re-elect Governor Jim Douglas (R). On October 17, PFFV members stood with Governor Douglas for a “sign wave” at a busy intersection in the City of Williston.
“Governor Douglas has been a great supporter of Vermont fire fighters,” says Matt Vinci, president of PFFV. “We are getting out there and doing what we can for him on this campaign.”
Douglas has signed important legislation, including Vermont’s presumptive cancer bill, which covers leukemia, lymphoma or multiple myeloma, and cancers originating in the bladder, brain, colon, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, liver, pancreas, skin or testicles.
The governor also passed legislation that requires photoelectric smoke detectors in homes. The detectors have been shown to sound earlier in smoldering fires and, therefore, have the potential to save more lives.
Governor Douglas spoke to delegates at the IAFF 49th Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, in August. Click here to read a summary of his remarks.
